Data SGP for Educators
Managing data is an essential part of any organization’s strategy and requires a number of tools to ensure that it is used effectively. A key aspect of this is data governance, ensuring that the data is managed securely, efficiently and cost-effectively, and that it is properly disposed of when no longer required.
Data sgp refers to the collection, storage, analysis, and reporting of student assessment data to provide educators with information about how much students have learned over time. This information can be used to identify patterns in student achievement and inform instructional decisions. It can also help educators understand how much student learning is required to meet grade level standards and other goals and benchmarks. Data sgp can be used at the classroom, school and district level.
A common feature of data sgp is the pairing of student growth with student achievement (achievement sgp with achievment sgp). Macomb ISD has developed a macro driven MS Excel document that takes a district student data file from BAA Secure Site and plots both achievment and growth. In addition, many educators use individual student sgp as a tool to share with parents, to enrich their picture of students’ academic progress and performance. Educators at all levels can and should use sgp data to identify students for further instruction, students who need to accelerate their development and those for whom more support is needed. Educators should also include sgp data in their teachers’ SLOs process.
SGP is calculated by comparing the most recent student assessment scores with those of their academic peers nationally who have taken at least one prior test in another testing window. For example, the most recent Star assessment and at least one prior spring or winter test are used to calculate a student’s current SGP. The student’s SGP is compared to the SGP of their academic peers across the nation in order to determine whether they are growing faster than, slower than or as fast as their peers.
The SGPdata package installed with the SGP statistical software includes an exemplar WIDE format data set called sgpData, which contains 5 years of vertically scaled student assessment data in WIDE format. This sgpData exemplar model data sets the format for the lower level studentGrowthPercentiles and studentGrowthProjections functions. See the SGPdata vignette for more detailed documentation on using WIDE data formats with SGP analyses. The SGPdata package also installs a LONG format data set called sgptData_LONG, which provides an additional sample of longitudinal data and models the format for use with higher level SGP functions that require the embedding of state specific meta-data in the sgpdata data set.
