ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights (APHR) invites civil society members attending the ASEAN People’s Forum in Dili, Timor-Leste, to join parliamentarians for an open discussion of regional investment and its impacts on local communities and the environment. The roundtable discussion will provide an opportunity for civil society groups focused on issues including business and human rights, land rights, indigenous people’s rights, and environmental protection, to speak candidly with regional lawmakers about their concerns and proposals.
Parliamentarians are particularly eager to hear from grassroots organizations working directly with communities affected by large-scale investments and development projects, including land concessions, mining projects, special economic zones, power plants, and hydropower dams. The discussion will help to inform future APHR advocacy, including a forthcoming report on the social, environmental, and human rights impacts of such projects throughout Southeast Asia.
This is not a workshop or panel discussion, but an opportunity for regional lawmakers to hear directly from you and learn from your experiences!
